Decorative
Feather Font
A custom font design constructed out of modular elements; based on my reflection & definition on what makes up my personal 'world’.
I created 4 different feather elements (from left to right): Semi-Circle, Round, Extreme-Curve, Default
Default used in top two rows of letters;
also present in B, D, J, K, P, Q, R, S
Semi-Circle used in bottom row of letters;
also present in D
Round used in 4th row of letters
Extreme-Curve used in 3 row of letters (not D)
Themed around my Interest in the Night/Sky/Space
— I find birds to be quite beautiful, especially their feathered wings as their symbolism really resonates with my personal values. They’re the animals of the sky, being able to soar at extensive heights over various lands, being one with the wind and clouds. Although there are some birds that cannot fly, they still wear beautiful, soft feathers, a unique feature that no other animal has.
During the ideation stage, I had also designed elements themed around Clouds, Stars, Sun/Moon/Eclipse, Comet/Meteor/Asteroid, whether I did not consistently use the same gridding system. However, I learnt from that
design stage to create a convoluted gridding system, where it is practically balanced/symmetrical from every position & angle.
Using the gridding system along with the aligning properties & tools that Adobe Illustrator provides, I positioned every element in logical places; most of the outer points reach the most outer edges for general balance overall.
Presenting most of the letters in a more defined context, I integrated this decorative font into a Truism — “Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness.” - Alejandro Jodorowsky
